My students are about to start a unit on right triangle trigonometry and while searching on YouTube I found two interesting videos that relate to the topic. One is from Khan Academy and is a short overview of the topic that I could use to help introduce trig ratios to the students.
I have used YouTube in my classroom for a while now and at my school we must override the filter in order to access videos that are housed on YouTube. I am a big fan of Khan Academy because of the hundreds of videos on math topics available (and growing). However, I ran into an issue of my students not being able to view them on the server because of the Internet filter. I did a little research and there is an option for schools in this situation called YouTube for Schools. It unblocks certain educational videos on YouTube and blocks out the inappropriate ones. Anyone who uses the school’s network would automatically go to YouTube for Schools where they could only access appropriate materials. My county is looking in to switching to this and this is very exciting for me and the activities I will be able to do once it is unblocked. My students are about to start a unit on right triangle trigonometry and while searching on YouTube I found two interesting videos that relate to the topic. One is from Khan Academy and is a short overview of the topic that I could use to help introduce trig ratios to the students. The second video is an abstract production that is set to a song called Two Dots. However, it is really neat how the author blended the math concepts with the music using different art concepts. I really thought it was a great idea and I think I could show this to my students when they have learned all the concepts so that they can pick them out from the video. YouTube can be used to learn how to do almost anything. My cousin and I both wanted to learn how to do the Cups Song from the movie Pitch Perfect. I found the original video of the song on YouTube and by watching it a few times (maybe more than a few) I was able to learn it and I felt very accomplished. Finally, YouTube can be used to learn, laugh, and even be inspired. Whenever I feel sad, I watch the Pep Talk by the Kid President and suddenly I feel better. So have a look and check out all the other cool videos that await you on YouTube.

I am glad you found YouTube highly supportive. I often find useful resources myself. Are you presenting the videos on an activeboard in the classroom or are the students watching it on their own laptops? Are you sharing the links with the student?
