5.1 Needs Assessment
Candidates conduct needs assessments to determine school-wide, faculty, grade-level, and subject area strengths and weaknesses to inform the content and delivery of technology-based professional learning programs.
Artifact: Questionnaire to Assess Technology Use
Reflection:
The Questionnaire to Assess Technology was created to determine what needs were present in my school for professional development related to technology. The survey asks teachers to self-assess their current level of technology implementation and comfort level in the classroom. The survey asks teachers about their use of technology in their classroom, as well as their students’ use of technology in their classroom. The final question asks if they are interested in professional development related to technology implementation in the classroom.
Based on the results of the survey, I provided a professional development session on implementing more technology with students in the classroom. I had a wide range of responses from the teachers who took the survey. Some were very comfortable using technology themselves and needed ideas for implementing technology for the students to use. I provided them with a demonstration on using QR codes with students and Socrative response systems. Other teachers were not even using technology themselves in the classroom. I provided them with demonstrations on how to use their tablet and document camera in their classroom.
The use of the survey really helped me to understand what was needed at my school in regards to technology professional development. In the future, I want to continue doing the professional development and give new and updated ideas to the teachers to use in the classroom. I will work with the administration and needs assessments to drive our future professional development.
