2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards.
Artifact: Content Report
Reflection:
The content review presentation is an overview of the content standards for mathematics and how to utilize technology to help students learn and master the standards. This artifact is aligned to student content standards and they are referenced throughout the presentation to show how tools can be directly used with a topic in a 9th grade math class.
The presentation presents five different technology tools that can be used with students in a mathematics classroom. They are all designed to increase student use of technology, while also increasing their engagement in the mathematics classroom. Technology has become a necessity for students in everyday life and needs to be used in the school as well. Student technology standards reflect this change by encouraging the student use of technology to gain understanding of a topic. I offer five examples of ways that students can use technology in the classroom in my artifact. One example of how students can use technology in the classroom is to utilize an online class website like Edmodo. This provides the students with a resource to go to for worksheets and to ask questions about their homework. Another such example outlined in this artifact of how students use technology in the high school math classroom is the Khan Academy website. It offers flipped video styled lessons for students who are struggling with a topic in math. There is also practice for the students to test their knowledge of the subject.
I also believe that my artifact shows my ability to model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experience. I lay out five specific resources that can be implemented in mathematics classrooms in order to help students. I also provide detailed explanations of exactly how those resources can be used by teachers and students to increase understanding of content standards. Teachers can create an Edmodo website for their students to communicate with them in a safe way and get help on homework while at home. They can also utilize the Khan Academy website as a resource for lessons that are taught while away from the classroom. Encouraging teachers in the use of Web 2.0 tools in the classroom facilitates differentiated learning. Certain students may review lessons multiple times, while some students may skip ahead in a lesson to the specific area of focus. I have used both of these resources successfully with my students and found that their understanding of topics increased from the use.
