2.7 Assessment
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure student learning and technology literacy, including the use of digital assessment tools and resources.
Artifact: Data Inventory
Reflection:
The Data Inventory assignment required me to determine all of the data that is collected and used by my school. While compiling the diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments that we collected as a school I was able to see data that is available outside of my particular subject area. Our school does a fantastic job of collecting and analyzing data to determine the level of student learning. We collect formative data through benchmarks and common assessments and the data is analyzed even at the subgroup level. We also make decisions about instruction based on the data that is collected in order to help our students learn.
By compiling this data for my schools, I am able to share with my entire school how we collect and use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments. Within our leadership teams, we model and facilitate how we collect and use data by sharing our best practices with other departments. I often use digital resources such as student response systems and the application Plickers to measure student learning and technology literacy. The students are able to demonstrate their mastery of a topic while also utilizing technology, which allows for instant feedback. I take note of students that miss questions and I specifically target them to make sure they understand the materials. Sometimes they are afraid to ask a question, but by going to them I can often clear up a mistake they are making and they can be successful at the topic.
By completing this artifact, I was able to learn how my school collects data and how that data is used to improve student learning and instruction. I would like to use this data inventory to talk with my principal to determine which of these are the best practices at our school. It would be very beneficial to determine which assessments are giving us the best data and utilize those assessments more often.
