2.8 Data Analysis
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to systematically collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, communicate findings, and implement appropriate interventions to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
Artifact: Data Overview
Reflection:
I completed the Data Overview to communicate to my school where we currently are in regards to our student achievement goals for the year. I collected formative and summative assessments that we have conducted and compared those to our goal for the year and compared our state end of course results with the state averages. Based on these results, I recommended areas that needed focus and asked the school to also view the results and determine areas that we could improve.
I utilized the program excel and PowerPoint to model and facilitate the use of digital tools to collect, analyze, and interpret student achievement data. We collect our data by using the program Edusoft that will collect the data based on student answer documents. We analyze and interpret the data by making graphs in excel and presenting the data in PowerPoint. I used the PowerPoint program to record a presentation in order to communicate my findings to the school. Based on the findings from the Data Overview, the principal and I discussed how to implement appropriate interventions for our students. I suggested that we implement more computer-based practice with our students using USATestprep for Coordinate Algebra and Analytic Geometry. This will provide our students with more practice with the type of questions they might see on the End of Course Test.
While completing this assignment, I learned about how to make compelling graphs in excel and PowerPoint in order to convey the data to the viewer. In the future, I would like to include more data in the overview and data that show the effectiveness of our formative assessments in driving instruction. I also think that having each subject area do their own data overview would be beneficial to our school and students.
