1.1 Shared Vision
Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership.
Artifact: Vision Statement
Reflection:
Crafting the school Shared Vision and rationale allowed me to analyze the current vision statement of my school and incorporate my own vision of education utilizing technology. In completing the school Shared Vision and Rationale, I had to not only create a school Shared Vision statement but also support that vision statement with evidence gathered from various sources.
Standard 1.1, states that candidate should facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. I demonstrated my ability to facilitate the development of a shared vision by completing this assignment, School Visions and Rationale paper, which required me to develop a vision statement and support that statement with rationale gathered from reputable sources.
The Shared Vision we created for my school stated “The most effective way for students to be engaged in learning and increase their performance is for the students to use technology to learn a new topic. My administration and I arrived at this viewpoint based on my research of technology standards that were constructed for a changing world of technologies. I also found technology to be the best way for visual learners to develop understanding of a topic instead of a teacher delivering information in a traditional format.
I worked with my principal to begin to facilitate the implementation of our vision. My school purchased more technology to have available to students and teachers during the day because we have a number of students who do not have access to any technology outside of the school day. Every classroom has an LCD projector, tablet, and document camera. I conducted training on how to use these new technologies and other tools available to students and teachers. After speaking with my principal about the needs of the school, he purchased a mobile lab for the students to use in their classroom. We also implemented a Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program in order for students to utilize their own technologies in the classroom and thus implement the vision for technology in the school. The BYOT program was implemented as a direct result of NETS standards for technology and new research involving hands-on methods of learning.
