Artifact: Technology Professional Learning
Reflection:
I created and implemented a professional learning session at my school centered around technology use in the classroom. My principal asked me to conduct the professional development to give the teachers a chance to ask questions from someone who is always in the building. The content of the professional development was decided after researching areas that needed attention in our particular school. I decided on the areas by talking with my principal and fellow teachers about areas that they were weak in. I focused on tools that the students could use in the classroom with their own technology and ideas for teachers to help them become more familiar with using technology in their classroom.
During the training, I had the teachers complete a QR code scavenger hunt that was placed around my classroom. They had to scan a QR code with a question and I then provided other QR codes with resources to find the answer to those questions. The activity got the teachers moving around and learning, while also feeling like a fun activity. The QR codes are a fun way to present information because it feels like you are deciphering a secret code using your phone. I created the presentation using Google Docs so that I could easily share it with everyone for future use. After the session was over, the participants were asked to complete a survey of their experience in the professional learning. The survey also asked if they would like any follow-up help with implementing new ideas in their classroom. I then met with a few teachers individually to help them with using some of their technology in their classroom. Adult learners are slightly different from teaching students. They are very enthusiastic, but often can stray off-task. I had to keep on them to not talk over me when I was explaining something. However, everyone that came participated and seemed to enjoy learning about the new tools.
I enjoyed completing this professional learning and I felt that many people learned a few new things to use in their classroom. I want to provide more professional learning in the future and I would like to focus on one specific idea in order to go more in-depth, such as creating your own website or how to make flipped videos.
